Thousand Oaks Monthly Update - May

Each month, we are posting updates from every church to better keep those part of one church more closely connected with those in the other churches. As we grow as a family, these are important moments to celebrate, pray for, and support what Jesus is doing in these communities. These updates will included updates, stories, prayer requests and a little glimpse into the life of the church. We hope these updates are encouraging to you!

With “June gloom” around the corner it has really felt like the seasons are changing. Many of us have just finished up a semester, our kids are getting close to summer break, and I’m sure a lot of us dreaming about the next time we can get away for a camping trip. May was an awesome time together at Anthem TO Here are a few highlights from the month of May.

At the end of April we had our long-time friend Jon Marshall out to lead our Third Thursday gathering. We had an amazing time growing in our understanding of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is alive and working in our world today through the power of the Holy Spirit in his people.

Last night, May 19th, we had our last Third Thursday before a break for the summer. Our time together was led by Tom Logue who is one of the pastors at Restored Church South Bay. Restored South Bay is a church that was planted about a year ago by Restored Church Uptown. Andy Rogers, Lead Pastor and Elder, spent 8 months with us as a Leadership Resident, before heading to San Diego to plant Restored Church Uptown.

Last night, Tom did an amazing job teaching us some very practical steps in learning to hear God in our prayers. Tom taught us that God speaks through the Holy Spirit to his children. Listening prayer is an amazing way to encourage and build up the body of Christ.

We have recordings of our last few Third Thursday teachings available on our Anthem Church - “Everything Else” podcast. Check them out here.

We really want to see Anthem TO grow in praying for the church body. One of the places that we are hoping to see intentional prayer happening for our church is in our Pre-Gathering Prayer times. We have started meeting at 8:30 (before the 9am) and 10:40 (before the 11am) to pray together.

Everyone is invited to this time where we intercede on behalf of Anthem Church. Join us in the Cry Room in the back of the Chapel every Sunday for our Pre-Gathering Prayer.

The Work Day we had this last Saturday morning was amazing. A group of about thirty of us had a great time investing a few morning hours into making Arcturus a bit more of a welcoming environment for people who are trying to find their way back to God! We were able to tackle projects like painting, weed duty, gutter clean outs, deep cleaning the infant and toddler rooms, fixing water leaks, all kinds of trimming, and a ton of other projects all over the property.

We hope you enjoy some of the little updates and clean-ups around Arcturus. We’re hoping to get our next Work Day on the calendar soon so you can plan on being there to help out too. Here’s a few pictures from the day!

PS - Big thanks to Mike Wise for being a servant leader in this, and to Rob and Carly for helping him out along the way!

  • Continue to pray for Justin Dittmar. Justin and Taylor have been a part of Anthem TO for a few years now.  About 2 months ago Justin was diagnosed with a life threatening sickness that has kept him in the hospital since the diagnosis. Pray for a full recovery for Justin, that he would be healed, and that God would guide the Doctors who are working with Justin. Pray that all red and white cell counts and platelet counts return to normal with no infections or other sickness while Justin’s white blood cell count is still low. Pray for Justin and Taylor that God would give them emotional and spiritual strength through this time of uncertainty.

We are anticipating an awesome summer 2016 with Anthem TO In years past our summers have actually been everything but boring. We have actually seen that our summers are a time when a ton of new people decide to check out Anthem TO on Sundays. When you’re in town this summer please join for our Sunday gatherings. Sunday’s are an amazing place to serve the body of Christ and to join the body in lifting up the name of Jesus.
