Thousand Oaks Monthly Update - June

TO.001.jpeg

Each month, we are posting updates from every church to better keep those part of one church more closely connected with those in the other churches. As we grow as a family, these are important moments to celebrate, pray for, and support what Jesus is doing in these communities. These updates will included updates, stories, prayer requests and a little glimpse into the life of the church. We hope these updates are encouraging to you!

June has felt like an incredible time with Anthem Thousand Oaks! As we have been in our Matthew teaching series it really has felt like the Lord has been speaking directly into the life and culture of our church. Our Sunday’s have been sweet times of worship and hearing from God’s word and I really feel like I’m seeing our community shaped more and more by God’s word.

HIGHLIGHTS

5 Unplanned Baptisms

Sunday May 5th was an amazing morning as we got to see 5 people get baptized that day. It is so cool to see the Lord call people to himself and to see people respond to God in baptism. We were so grateful as we worshipped the Lord that morning. If you are interested in getting baptized please chat with a leader after service, or let community group leader know, or email us. We’d love to talk with you about taking the next step in following Jesus with getting baptized.

Babu and Sabitri Varghese visited from Nepal

On June 19th we got an awesome opportunity to see Babu and Sabitri who were visiting the states from Nepal. As a church we support the ministry of Touch Nepal. Babu is an amazing leader who oversees 14 churches in the plains region of Nepal (near the border of India). He ministers to the pastors by teaching them how to study the Scriptures, how to pastor people in difficult times and many other things. In addition to leading these 14 churches, Babu’s home is an orphanage for 60 adopted children. He and his wife Sabitri are raising these kids as their own. They’ve given them a family, an education and a faith that is deep. Our love for church planting led us to partner with Touch Nepal, and now we continue to pour into them because we love Babu and Beki and their apprentice Bikash.

Elder development

We are in the midst of an elder development process for Anthem TO. On June 12th we introduced Tom & Lois Gallardo, Ryan & Tricia Hinkle, and Christ & Heather Wallock, who have completed the development process, and are now in a season of review to the body. If you would like to provide insight, feedback, or get time with any of the elder candidates, please reach out to them individually, or contact anyone on our elder team

Love LA

This was our third year partnering with Cornerstone South LA’s team to help invest in the children, families, and neighbors in the South LA community. While Anthem Students were in LA they helped provide a Bible camp where kids could learn about Jesus and where our students were challenged to show the Love of Christ to a community that desperately needs it. Our students have fallen in love with this community and these kids, some even considering careers in teaching and counseling so they can continue to be a part of a change in this community and communities like it.

Middle School Camp

This Summer we had our very first Anthem Middle School camp. The camp was an incredible time and we had 17 students go out to have fun and grow in following Jesus together.

COMING UP

Discipling Your Kids

Steve and Connie Larson are leading a workshop discussing the principles that are critical in helping your kids mature in their walk with Jesus.

Intro to Membership

In July we have our membership class for Anthem T.O. where each week we will unpack biblical truths about belonging in the body of Christ and have some conversations and discussion around those topics. At the end of the two weeks, those who have prayerfully considered membership and have committed to become part of the Anthem family will be recommended to the elders of Anthem.

THINGS TO BE PRAYING FOR

  • Con tinue to pray for new life found in Christ and baptisms at Anthem T.O.
  • Pray for our Community Groups to grow together in friendship, unity, and in the gospel.
  • Pray for Babu and Sabitri and all of the ministry that they do in Nepal.
  • Pray for the Anthem Students, that they would become more and more passionate about following Jesus. Pray for the students of Thousand Oaks that God would capture their hearts with the hope of the gospel!
