Camarillo Monthly Update - June

Each month, we are posting updates from every church to better keep those part of one church more closely connected with those in the other churches. As we grow as a family, these are important moments to celebrate, pray for, and support what Jesus is doing in these communities. These updates will included updates, stories, prayer requests and a little glimpse into the life of the church. We hope these updates are encouraging to you!

I’m not sure how a month can seem long and short all at the same time but that’s what I feel about the month of May! But it was an amazing month!

Highlights

EQUIP

We Kicked off the month of May with EQUIP (formerly know as Leadership Community), At EQUIP we had a handful of breakouts: Anthem Kids, Sound/Tech, Dark to Dawn/ Foster Awareness and Community Life. We had a great time receiving training together as to how in grow in serving Jesus.

But what really put it over the top was we had our good friend and fellow planter Daniel Jansen from Imago Dei Downey come talk to us about Evangelism. God is doing amazing things in Downey, we are seeing people from all different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds coming to know Jesus. DJ came out and shared with us his heart, and walked through the gospel inviting us to join God's mission to reach this world by being his ambassadors and letting this world specifically Camarillo, know who Jesus is. It was so encouraging and one of the highlights of the month for sure.

Be praying for Daniel and Crista and Imago Dei in Downey, if you get a chance head out there and encourage them. Their website is imagodei.church

Our next EQUIP is on July 10th at 12:30pm come and join us.

Child Dedications

On May 15th we had a 3 child dedications. The Torok’s, the Hoekendorf’s, and the Baker’s all brought their children before the congregation and the Lord and shared their prayer for their kids, and committed themselves to show their children what Jesus is like by the way they love one another and pursue Jesus as a family together.

DNA Training

We didn’t quite get enough training in with EQUIP so we decided to have a DNA Training as well. DNA Groups are a place where we intentionally engage in discipling relationships. DNA stands for Discovering the truths of Jesus together in Scripture, Nurturing one another’s hearts, and holding one another accountable to Act upon what God is revealing to us. There were about 20 folks at the training, and we have 4 new groups about to start. If you are interested in getting involved in a DNA Group talk to your Community Group Leaders.

Chris and Meryl Wienand

Chris and Meryl Wienand joined us on May 22nd! It was an amazing day for the Camarillo family to finally get to meet Chris and Meryl. We had two big prayer requests as Chris and Meryl came in. First was that they wouldn’t feel like outsiders to Anthem Cam, rather that they would feel like part of the family. Second was that God would use Chris to provide a great response time. You guys God answered both those prayers in an amazing way. Chris and Meryl instantly felt not like guest teachers, but they felt like old friends with an important voice. We’ve been praying for God to increase our prayer response time together and on the 22nd after Chris’ message on the Spirit we had one of our most powerful response times of the year. We are so thankful for Chris and Meryl and their love for Anthem. If you’d like to listen to his message you can find it here or on itunes under Anthem Camarillo.

Memorial Day Campout

Finally we had our Memorial Day Campout!!!! For the past two years we’ve moved our Sunday morning gatherings over Memorial Day to the wilderness! And this year was such a blast. Huge shout out to Daniel and Olivia Griffes and their hard work in helping make the weekend a success. I cannot tell you how big of a smile it put on my face to watch over 80 folks head up in the hills without electronic (or flushing toilets) to truly enjoy one another. You could hear laughter around campfires to the wee hours, and hear the scampering of little ones throughout the camp early in the morning as they played on slacklines, tried to come up with some way to catch a turkey, or just running around playing tag. On Saturday and Sunday we went to the watering hole to cool off, jump off some cliffs, and most importantly celebrate a baptism together. Alyssa Bordonaro was baptized Sunday morning in front of friends, family and even some strangers. I cannot properly express in words how amazing it was to watch her proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, and testify that he has been so evident in their family. I love love love watching people find their way back to God!

Next year in faith we’ve already secured 200 spots so if you’re interested and a planner, you can already start buggin Daniel Griffes.
