Camarillo Monthly Update - July

Each month, we are posting updates from every church to better keep those part of one church more closely connected with those in the other churches. As we grow as a family, these are important moments to celebrate, pray for, and support what Jesus is doing in these communities. These updates will included updates, stories, prayer requests and a little glimpse into the life of the church. We hope these updates are encouraging to you!

I’m not sure if there is a faster month in the year than the month of June. It generally feels like it takes forever for June to get here, but feels like it's over before we know it. Here’s a brief update of what took place this month in Anthem Camarill.

Highlights

Ladies Gathering

From Christy Bailey, “On June 11th our gals got together for a really special time. We had a workout instructor from the Conejo Valley, come out and lead us in a fun workout. Not going to lie it was pretty tough but we really enjoyed it. After that we rewarded ourselves with some great breakfast burritos. We had a neat time of sharing about our own prayers and goals for the summer. We had a focused time on how to keep spiritually strong during the summer months when it's easy to get apathetic.”

These gatherings are great no matter where you are in life, older, younger, single, married, divorced, or widowed you belong here. This is a great place to cultivate relationships with gals who love Jesus and want to grow as disciples of Him.

Third Thursday

This was our Third, “Third Thursday” as Anthem Camarillo, and it was such a sweet time. We had a great group of worshippers come together to focus in on Matthew 11:28-30:

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 ESV)

During our time together we spent time to slow down and thank God for the rest that he provides, we talked about what keeps us from experiencing the rest he provides, and took time to confess sins together and commit to walking side by side yoked with Jesus. It was a very powerful and encouraging time for our Anthem Family!

Our next Third Thursday is September 15th at 7pm at the Boys and Girls Club in Camarillo, get it on your calendar and come join us as we worship Jesus!

Matthew Teaching Series

We are falling in love with Matthew. It has been pretty fun to watch God use his word to shape our lives, and challenge us to not only look to Jesus as our substitute but as our example. I know early in my relationship with the Lord, I primarily or solely looked to Jesus as my substitute, the one who died in my place, took my sins upon his shoulders and was nailed to the cross in my place. And that is totally true, and I never want to downplay that. But what we’ve already been challenged with in Matthew is that Jesus is more than a substitute he is our example. Our example as to how to live a life empowered by the Holy Spirit, reflecting God and demonstrating what kingdom living looks like here and now.
